Earthquake Web-Quest

Begin by researching what an earthquake is. Use your resources and gain a good understanding of what it means to have an earthquake. The president may not have a good understanding. The first part of your report should have a clear description, of at least 2 or 3 complete sentences, describing the basic idea of the phenomenon.

The next thing to do is find out when and where earthquakes occur. Do they appear to happen mostly in mountainous regions, oceans, deserts, wetlands or lowlands? Or do they seem to be randomly scattered all over the Earth? Your report will need at least a few sentences describing places that earthquakes seem more likely to occur and what these places may have (if anything) in common.

Next, you will need to explain what causes earthquakes and whether or not they are increasing in magnitude and frequency. Describe the theory of plate tectonics and some of the evidence supporting it. If earthquakes are increasing, by how much? If they are not, why do there seem to be so many recent news reports? This part of your report should be at least three complete paragraphs.
